Severe thunderstorm watch issued for South Huron County

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Goderich, Bluewater, and Southern Huron County.

Environment Canada said conditions are favourable for the development of severe weather that might be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Expect wind gusts up to 90 kilometres per hour with nickel to toonie sized hail, torrential downpours and a risk of tornadoes.

The statement said, "Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall."

They recommend that you take cover immediately if you're caught in threatening weather.

Environment Canada said it is expected to start sometime this afternoon into this evening.
