Wellington named 2023 Leader in Sustainability

Wellington County has been honored by Call2Recycle Canada Inc. as a 2023 Leader in Sustainability for its outstanding battery recycling efforts.

The county collected 11,173 kilograms of batteries in 2023, a 10.8 per cent increase from the previous year.

This achievement places Wellington County among top performers in the Call2Recycle program, showcasing its commitment to environmental excellence. This marks the third consecutive year the county has received this award.

“Wellington County's dedication to recycling significantly contributes to our mission of diverting batteries from landfills, protecting wildlife, and our communities,” said Joe Zenobio, President of Call2Recycle Canada, Inc.

Since 1997, Call2Recycle has diverted over 45 million kilograms of batteries from landfills across Canada.
