Grade 7 and 8 students in the Experiential Learning Program at St. Marys School in Goderich got a chance to see what working life is like in the town and what kind of opportunities could be available to them.
Experiential Learning Leader Liz Yundt said the economic development officer in Goderich arranged for them to tour Faux Pop Media, the Huron County Gaol, the Maitland Valley Medical Centre, the Alexandra Marine General Hospital and Thyme on 21 Restaurant.
Yundt said the experience gave them the chance to explore opportunities that they would not be able to do in the classroom.

"I think even hearing adults share with them that their career path was not straight... that sometimes you go in one direction and then another and that's OK. That's actually more a sign of success than failure and the students are aware of the wide range of opportunities that await them," she said.
Yundt said it's difficult for students, even at the Grade 12 level, to know where they fit in a very specialized job market, so they can learn from all of these job experiences.
