People across Chatham-Kent (CK) have the chance to watch how powerline technicians work in a unique and fun way.
St. Clair College will host it's annual powerline rodeo on Thursday at the school's training facility on Bear Line Road, just next to the campus.
Students will be competing in a range of challenges, including pole top rescue, ring the bell, climbing relay, don’t break the egg, team relay climb, and insulator change.
"It's a display of all the students and the training they put into action and gives them a chance to demonstrate their expertise and everything they've built here in the Powerline program. They get to share this journey with their friends and family," said David Dwyer of St. Clair College.
He added that they're expecting over 500 people at the event.
Dwyer also explained that safety will be top of mind.
"In regard to safety precautions. All staff here on site are trained in pull-top rescue, first aid, and CPR. We have various pieces of equipment to get anyone down. Should they get stuck in the air, whether they'd be on a pole or in a bucket truck, and essentially just our training and our knowledge will help assist in any kind of special emergency situation," he added.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m.
