Chatham-Kent (CK) Public Health is sharing more information behind its recent medical alert.
It was issued on Tuesday for anyone who underwent a procedure at MicroFleek on Queen Street in Chatham between December 1, 2024, and March 6, 2026.
"Insufficient infection control procedures may increase the risk of transmitting blood-borne infections, such as HIV or Hepatitis, as well as bacterial or fungal infections of the skin or nails," CK Public Health said in a statement.
Anyone who received treatment during this timeframe is encouraged to speak to a doctor.
CK Public Health explained that they became aware of the issue after receiving a complaint.
They added that the nail salon never informed them of its opening, so they missed multiple inspections that would have caught the issue sooner.
CK News Today also reached out to MicroFleek, but didn't receive a response.
This announcement comes nearly one month after a similar alert was issued about the Chatham Skin Clinic.
CK Public Health explained that there was a lengthy lapse in sterilizing and reprocessing medical equipment at the clinic. This is something staff at the clinic have disputed, instead claiming the issue was a lack of documentation and not sterilization.
Meanwhile, a second Chatham nail salon has been closed by CK Public Health.
A complaint was filed against Fantasy Nails Plus, prompting an inspection by the health unit.
It was closed after the inspection found several issues, including not disposing of sharps in an approved sharps container close to where the procedure is done and not posting past results of inspections.
