The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) is warning that this weekend's forecast could result in potential flooding in low-lying areas.
The LTVCA stated in a release that rainfall amounts of 35 to 45 millimetres are possible on Sunday, and that the Thames River is expected to rise and flood the low-lying areas adjacent to it.
The Conservation Authority also noted that, based on forecasts, areas of ponding, standing water and localized flooding are expected around the watershed. Smaller watercourses in the region are expected to rise and spill their banks into adjacent low-lying areas.
The LTVCA expects to operate the McGregor Creek Diversion Channel in Chatham.
People should take extra caution and avoid the river, ditches, and streams.
The statement will remain in effect until Friday, January 2, 2026, unless local conditions warrant further updates.
