CK's council set to hold budget meetings

Budget talks officially start on Tuesday for Chatham-Kent's (CK) council.

Over the next three days, mayor and council will look to establish next year's municipal budget.

If the budget is approved as is, property owners would have to pay 4.92 per cent more in property tax. This means they'll pay an additional $104 annually for every $100,000 of a home's assessed value.

This is already down from the forecasted increase of 8.77 per cent. The municipality said this was done through a long list of reductions totaling around $9.5 million.

It's expected that several motions will be introduced to try to lower the tax increase.

Tuesday's meeting gets underway at 6 p.m.
