Several groups have come together to honour International Women's Day and shine the spotlight on a number of local individuals.
"We are thrilled to join forces with SheLeads and Zonta to celebrate International Women's Day," said Lisa Lester, the event organizer from the Armoury Special Events. "This collaboration represents our collective commitment to empowering women in our community and supporting the essential work of the Chatham-Kent Women's Centre."
Zonta, SheLeads, and The Armoury Special Events will host I AM WOMAN on Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9 in Chatham.
The celebration kicks off with a women's march, organized by Zonta, at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Participants are encouraged to wear the color purple and meet at Sweet C's on King St.
Individuals of any gender are welcome to join in the celebration of women's achievements and empowerment.
After the march, everyone is welcome to continue celebrating at the Armoury. Starting at 5 p.m., activities including interactive booths, uplifting beats spun by local DJ Courtney Wells, a meditation and sound bath facilitated by Lisa Uher, a dance tutorial led by Lester, and a lighthearted Lip Sync Battle will be available. Food from Taste by Tiff can be purchased during the event.
On Saturday, a women-owned and operated vendor expo, will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Armoury.
The expo is intended to be a platform for women-identifying entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services as well as foster empowerment and community support.
The cost to enter the event is a minimum donation of $5 at the door, to support the Chatham-Kent Women's Centre. More information can be found here.
