A large-scale mural is coming to the town of Dresden.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent announced Tuesday that Mayor Darrin Canniff is partnering up with the Mall and Grail families to install the mural.
It will be located at 346 St. George Street in Dresden, which is the former women's clothing store.
“Public art plays a significant role in enhancing community aesthetics, fostering cultural expression, and creating vibrant spaces for residents and visitors alike to enjoy,” said Canniff in a statement.
The subject and artist have not yet been announced, but the municipality said the mural "will serve as a symbol of cultural expression and community pride, reflecting the unique identity and spirit of Dresden.”
Mike Grail, who is the co-owner of the building, said he beleives the mural will enhance Dresden's visual landscape while contirbuting to the culutral fabric of Chatham-Kent.
"As a proud member of this community, I am delighted to partner with the Mayor's Office to bring this mural to life," said Grail.
The Mall and Grail families will be looking for feedback from the community in the near future.
"There will be a lot of ways we're gonna try and get that feedback and then we will put it out for tender to the artist and see what they come up with," said Grail.
The project will be financed through the mayor’s share of the Hydro One Community Benefit program, which is designated for recreational and art projects.
