UPDATE: Dog shot by police in west Windsor

A 45-year-old man has been arrested after Windsor police were called to a west-end location Thursday afternoon.

Officers responded at around 2 p.m. to the area of Tecumseh Road West and Huron Church Road, for a person-in-crisis call.

When they arrived, the man, whom police say was experiencing a mental health crisis, became combative and assaulted one officer while threatening to kill another. The man was subdued after officers used a taser.

During the interaction, police say the man encouraged his pit bull mix dog to attack the officers. After non-lethal methods to control the animal failed, officers shot the dog to death.

No other injuries were reported.

The man was arrested under the Mental Health Act, and eventually charged with assaulting an officer, uttering death threats, and failure to comply with a release order.

The investigation is ongoing.
