Town of Essex councillors approved a $6.3 million addition to town hall this week.
"We've found a way to do it without raising tax dollars. We're looking at asset management, investments from ELK, and also some long-term financial planning," said Essex Mayor Sherry Bondy.
The expansion will allow all municipal services from the Gesto office building to be moved back to town hall.
"We want to bring everybody under one roof. Work on administrative efficiencies and really improve the experience for residents in our town," said Essex Mayor Sherry Bondy.
The current town hall was built in 1967 and council chambers only has room for around 15 people outside of administration.
"It's not really comfortable an the delegations are sitting right next to administration, there's really no personal space in our council chamber," said Bondy.
A construction tender will be issued shortly with construction expected to start early in the new year. The renovations are scheduled to be complete by the spring of 2026.
