With the 2024 NFL Draft quickly approaching, the City of Detroit has announced the next round of street closures as the downtown core prepares for the big event.
The main draft stage off Campus Martius continues to take shape, as the draft will be centred on that area and Hart Plaza.
The round of closures beginning Monday morning will likely have the biggest impact on commuters from Windsor. Both directions of Jefferson Avenue in front of Hart Plaza will be closed to accommodate the NFL Draft Experience.
The complete list of Phase 3 closures starting Monday, is as follows.
The southbound Lodge Freeway exit to Jefferson Avenue downtown will be closed - Exits 1-A (W. Jefferson) and 1-B (Larned) will remain open for now.
Westbound Jefferson Avenue from Beaubien Street to Washington Boulevard.
Eastbound Jefferson Avenue from Washington Boulevard to Randolph
Bates Street from Jefferson Avenue to Atwater Street
Atwater Street from Civic Center Drive to Bates Street
Southbound Brush Street between Larned Street and Jefferson Avenue
Traffic from the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel will be required to use I-375, the Chrysler Freeway, while Jefferson and the southbound Lodge are closed. Those travelling to Windsor should use Randolph Street to Jefferson.
Tal Czudner, CEO of the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel, has offered a way for commuters to make the trip easier while streets are closed.
"Your helpful tunnel tip is to sign up for a Nexpress Card to save money on both routes and it saves some time entering the tunnel," said Czudner in a media release.
Complete information about street closures to date can be found on the City of Detroit's official website.
Hundreds of thousands of football fans and journalists will converge on Detroit on April 25, 26, and 27.
