The alleged urge by a driver to perform stunts with his vehicle has landed a LaSalle teen in trouble.
LaSalle police say an officer, on patrol in the area of Malden Village Plaza on Malden Road at around 10 p.m. Monday, spotted a vehicle being driven erratically in the parking lot, or doing "donuts". The vehicle was seen being driven in tight circles, screeching tires at a high rate of speed.
The officer stopped the driver and cited him for performing a stunt with a vehicle. Under the provincial law on stunt driving, the vehicle was towed and impounded for 14 days, during which time the driver behind the wheel is responsible for any towing and storage fees.
A 17-year-old's driver licence was also suspended for 30 days, after which he will have to pay a $281 reinstatement fee to get it back.
Police say that upon conviction for stunt driving, the young man will face a fine of not less than $,2000 and his licence suspended for not more than two years on a first conviction, and not more than ten years on any subsequent conviction.
"Driving a motor vehicle in this fashion is not only dangerous to the driver and the passengers but also to everyone that may be visiting the plaza," said Senior Constable Terry Seguin. "This is a hard lesson to learn but one that hopefully makes this person a safer driver and to make better decisions."
