Researchers have confirmed a tornado touched down in North Perth as part of storms that blew through the area last week.
According to the Northern Tornadoes Project, a tornado near Monkton caused EF1 damage, while EF1 damage at Seaforth was caused by a downburst.
The tornado developed around 5:06 p.m. and reached wind speeds estimated at 150 km/h. No injuries were reported but two barns were damaged.
The downburst in Seaforth actually reached estimated speeds of 165 km/h, causing damage to farm buildings, trees and power poles across an area over eight kilometres long. There were also no injuries reported.
In total, four tornadoes were confirmed in Southwestern Ontario as part of the September 2 storm: two in Tavistock, one in Wellsley and the latest in North Perth.
"All of these events were part of an incredibly widespread and destructive severe weather outbreak across Southern Ontario, with a large swath of wind damage stretching from the Lake Huron shoreline south of Goderich through to the Brantford area," said a statement from the NTP.
They add that no further damage surveys are planned, although satellite imagery reviews for the Monkton tornado and Seaforth downburst are still pending.
