Windsor to pray for peace six months after Ukraine invaded

As Ukraine marks its Independence Day and six months since Russian troops invaded the country, Windsor residents are invited to a service to pray for peace.

The Interfaith prayer service for peace in Ukraine is on the front lawn of Windsor City Hall on Wednesday night. The ceremony starts at 7 p.m.

Several dignitaries will join Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens, including Pastor Tom Hrywna from St. Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church. Windsor-Tecumseh MP Irek Kusmierczyk will be at the event, along with the President of the Windsor Jewish Federation, Doctor Michael Malowitza and Emelda Byrne, the director of education at the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board.

Meanwhile, residents in Kyiv awoke Wednesday morning to the sound of air raid sirens.

According to the Kyiv Independent, President Vladimir Zelensky warned residents Russian troops may step up shelling on the country's Independence Day.
