The Medical Officer of Health for Windsor Essex urges people to follow public health measures as COVID-19 cases in the community continue to rise.
"The onus is on us. Every business establishment, anyone we are meeting, we have to consider as a potential risk and take all of our precautions," said Dr. Wajid Ahmed.
On Friday, the health unit reported 22 new cases in the community. Ten are community cases, while seven are to the agricultural sector. The rest are still under investigation.
In the last seven days, 42 per cent of cases originated in Windsor, and 51 per cent originated in Leamington and Kingsville.
"More and more business and commercial activity is happening in Windsor, so that's why it's important that we know that still the risk exists, and we need to take all those measures that we are recommending," said Dr. Ahmed.
Dr. Ahmed said community cases are happening throughout the region.
In the last two weeks, 64 per cent of cases occurred among residents 20-39 years old. Ahmed said a good majority of that can be linked to the agri-farm sector.
To date, the region has had 1,879 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Currently, 67.2 per cent have resolved, 3.7 per cent have passed away, 27.7 per cent are self-isolating, and 0.1 per cent are in hospital.
