A 24-year-old man has been charged after a public tip helped police stop an in-progress break and enter.
The Windsor Police Service said on Wednesday at around 12 p.m., a resident on Henry Ford Centre Drive near Whelpton Street called police after spotting a suspicious man moving an outdoor chair from the front of a neighbour's house to the backyard.
Police said the burglar used the chair to climb on so he could climb through a window to get into the home.
Police were able to get in touch with the homeowner who told them no one should be in the home. As a result, officers surrounded the home and called for anyone inside the home to come out. When there was no response, officers entered the home and found the burglar hiding in the basement. He was arrested without incident, but police seized a box cutter and a knife.
As a result, 24-year-old Travis Desrosiers of no fixed address has been charged with break and enter.
