What to do this Canada Day in Windsor-Essex

No matter where you live in Essex County, there is a celebration planned for Canada Day.

In the City of Windsor, a parade down Ouellette Avenue gets underway at 11 a.m. The route starts at Ouellette and Giles Boulevard and ends at Riverside Drive.

Afterwards, you can enjoy some birthday cake at the Riverfront Festival Plaza before enjoying the midway on the last day of Summerfest.

Between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., the Town of Tecumseh marks Canada Day with a family celebration in Lakewood Park. Admission is free. Special guests include Jangles the Clown, Border City Barkers Dog Agility Show, and the Silver Star Riding Drill Team. The kids can try their hand at mini-golf or play in the bouncy castle.

There is also a free recreational swim at the Tecumseh Leisure Pool in LaCasse Park from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Lakeshore celebrates in Stoney Point with a parade down Main Street at 3 p.m. At 5 p.m., cake will be served.

Local student Talia Vander Enden will sing the national anthem kicking off family activities at 5:30 p.m. Later in the evening, enjoy music from Hayley Doucet and the Leave Those Kids Alone Band.

The fireworks get underway at 9:50 p.m.

On the other side of the county, welcome new Canadians as they take their citizenship oath on the waterfront grounds at Fort Malden National Historic Site.

There is also the 5 km Canada D'Eh run at 9 a.m.

Many parks are hosting family activities and performances. At 7 p.m. Two Years Apart and Big Louis and the Band will entertain the crowd before an outdoor family movie, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, at 10 p.m. at Fort Malden.

Leamington’s Canada Day celebration starts at 8 p.m., kicked off by Jody Raffoul and the Brandy Alexanders at the Seacliff Park Amphitheatre. Followed by a fireworks display at 10:15PM at Seacliff Beach.

The party in Kingsville starts at 11 a.m. at Kingsville Parks and Recreation Complex. The Kingsville Canada Day Festival is free. Food trucks will keep visitors full, and the kids will stay busy with water inflatables, bouncy castles, and face painting.
