A Windsor police officer has been nominated for a Police Hero of the Year award for saving a man's life.
Constable Angus McKenzie performed CPR on a man who was unresponsive on January 24 outside the WFCU Centre. Officer McKenzie was leaving after finishing his paid duty at the Spitfires game but saw a woman along the road who appeared to be under distress. She was outside of her vehicle performing CPR on her father who became unresponsive while they were leaving the game. Another person, only known as Rivard, flagged down paramedics who continued CPR and used a defibrillator on the man three times.
The victim was taken to Windsor Regional Hospital for care.
"Without his assistance and quick reaction to help this male party without any hesitation, the male would not have survived," said Essex-Windsor EMS District Chief Sarah Bezaire.
Bezaire recommended McKenzie for a life-saving recognition.
