Windsor police trying to identify body pulled from river

Windsor police are asking the public for help in identifying a woman pulled from the Detroit River Thursday.

Police were called to the riverfront off Goyeau Street and Riverside Drive East around 3:30 p.m. for a report of a marine emergency. Witnesses told police they spotted a body floating in the river. Officers from the WPS Marine Unit retrieved the woman.

Investigators are working to determine the woman's identity and the circumstances surrounding her death.

Police said on Thursday that the woman's body did not have any obvious signs of trauma.  She was also originally believed to have been elderly, according to police, but is now confirmed to be younger.

She is described as a white female, between the ages of 35 and 45 years old, with thinning hair. She was wearing a black suit, a red long-sleeved sweater, black shoes and sunglasses.

Anyone with information on the woman's identity or who may have been on the riverfront Thursday afternoon and saw something unusual is asked to call Windsor police at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4830. Anonymous tips can be submitted by phone to Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477) or submitted online.
