Area businesses are invited to take part in Intercultural Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Training.
The fall sessions are being hosted by The Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership.
Spokesperson Dorian Noble said businesses will learn how to create an inclusive workplace.
"Sarnia-Lambton has a very changing demographic and I think it's important for employers to know that there is this really amazing talent out there," said Noble. "And I think through this training, we can really kind of start to be made aware of maybe some unconscious biases that we have, so that we can be able to bring in different cultures who have different experiences from what they've done maybe back in their home country, they can bring here to enrich local business."
She said it's related to the Newcomer Community Connection Program.
"It's a project that we got funding for earlier this year," said Noble. "And, with that it really is a program that looks to help internationally trained job seekers be able to come into the Sarnia-Lambton market. So the program is really designed to attract and most of all retain talent here in Sarnia-Lambton."
The free in-person sessions will be held at the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club on October 5 and again on November 16.
Noble said space is limited to two people per business, with a cap of 50 businesses.
"We teamed up with a consulting firm by the name of Diversity Solutions to really come up with a comprehensive curriculum and training that's going to be ongoing," she said. "There are the two full-day in-person session, and then they're also going to have access to some additional information through a website that they can build on this training with, as well as take away to their employees whether it be back at their office, manufacturing plant or whatever their type of business is."
