Block Party kicks off Friday

Block Party kicks off Friday

The sound of live Canadian music will flow over Sarnia's waterfront this weekend.

The Bluewater Health Foundation's 2023 Block Party kicks off Friday.

Event Coordinator Adelle Stewardson said they're really excited for the two day event in Centennial Park and have a great line-up of bands scheduled to perform.

"Friday night we are opening with Townhall Revival, a local band, and then at 7:30 p.m. Jagged goes on the stage," said Stewardson. "That's an Alanis Morissette cover band. At 9 p.m. we have Pearl Jamming, that's a Pearl Jam cover band, and then at 10:30 p.m. it's Grace, 2 - which is a tribute to the Tragically Hip."

Saturday opens with another local band, Bad Men Association.

"Then at 8 p.m. The Beaches will hit the stage," she said. "We're really excited. The Beaches are a super cool rock and roll band from Toronto, named after the neighbourhood they all live in. They have a total 70s vibe that we love."

The event will wrap up with a performance by July Talk.

"July Talk is also a Canadian Band from Toronto [with] kind of an alternative rock feel," said Stewardson. "They've been performing for over 10 years and they're known for their whiplashing, guitars and catchy tunes."

Tickets are still available, but only a few VIP tickets were left earlier this week.

"Ticket prices range from $20 for a Friday night general admission ticket, to $104 for a VIP weekend pass," she said. "Obviously, you're saving a little bit of money on the VIP weekend pass."

Tickets can be purchased at Revelree.ca

Stewardson has this tip for attendees looking to dodge nearby road construction.

"Front Street will be closed still, but you can access the Block Party from Nelson Street. If you're parking downtown, then I would say, coming down Nelson Street you're going to head right towards our front gate," she said.

Stewardson said funds raised will support mental health and addiction services at Bluewater Health.

"Locally, these services are much needed by both the adult and the child adolescent population as we continue to see an increase in mental health and addiction related issues and diagnosis in our community," she said. "Over the last seven years we've been fortunate enough to raise over $160,000 for these important services at Bluewater Health."

Foundation President Kathy Alexander told Sarnia News Today previously their goal is to raise $100,000 this year.
