Imperial Theatre draws lucky winner of May 50/50 draw

Sarnia's Imperial Theatre is congratulating Kerry Bedard on winning the May 50/50 draw.

Bedard, a semi-retiree who has bought tickets every month since October, took home the $169,975 grand prize.

He said he plans to put money down on his mortgage, and is looking forward to travelling.

Imperial Theatre Executive Director Brian Austin said the May draw has allowed them to begin making plans to upgrade the auditorium including new seats, new paint, and a new floor.

"The plan is to have the work in the auditorium done over the summer. The seats have been well used over the last 24 years, but we are no longer able to repair them. We are looking forward to breathing new life into the auditorium."

The theatre still has over $500,000 in projects in the works. It's hoped the June draw will provide funding for a new sound system including an Adamson Line array and a theatrical lighting equipment upgrade. Those two upgrades are expected to cost around $290,000.

As of June 1st, the theatre has given away $1.27 million dollars in prizes.

Tickets for the June 50/50 fundraiser can be purchased online at https://www.imperialtheatre5050.net.  They're three for $10; 40 for $20; and 200 for $40.

The June lottery runs until July 4 at 11:59pm, with the winner drawn on July 5.

Residents are also being given the opportunity to purchase a pair of original seats for $150.

Orders must be placed by June 30, and those interested can email Brian Austin at baustin@imperialtheatre.net.
