A section of Old Lakeshore Road in Bright's Grove is closed again after the erosion-prone Lake Huron shoreline experienced more failures recently.
City Construction Manager Rob Williams said they endured a couple of strong wind events last Thursday and Friday, and again Monday.
"One section of Old Lakeshore Road between Pine Avenue and Penhuron Drive was closed," said Williams. "We closed it Friday night and we've done some interim repairs to mitigate the problem, but we have a revetment that was built in 1992 that is failing more rapidly combined with the high water."
Williams said the road and pedestrian lane will remain closed for the time being.
"We just have an engineer working on a design for that [revetment], we haven't got that in our hands yet so we're looking at what we can do."
Williams said temporary repairs were also made to an area off of Marion Street on Saturday.
"We placed rip-rap [rubble] into the washout which will slow the erosion."
The City of Sarnia included over $2 million in the 2020 budget to replace steel groynes, retaining walls and beach access points along the Lake Huron shoreline.
