A Sarnia man is being hailed a hero for saving his premature baby's life twice within a matter of days. Jamie Sloan was presented with a life saving certificate from St. John of Jerusalem for using first aid to save baby Sullivan on May 21 and 23 when he was just a couple of weeks old. Since Sullivan was born five weeks early, his lungs weren't fully developed and he had a hard time breathing. When he tried to take a breath, he choked on a combination of acid reflux and formula. Sloan said it was a scary experience that he and his wife Tracy never want to go through again. "He was on formula, not solid food so I wondered what he could be choking on," said Sloan. "At this point, he's going blue and he's going purple. I'm trying to remain calm, so I did the finger swipe and flipped him over on his stomach on my forearm and started giving him back blows. I was scared, but I knew that I needed this little boy to wake up." Sloan said the response time by Lambton EMS was extremely quick each time. After going back to the hospital eight more times, doctors precribed Sullivan with a baby dose of antacid which Sloan says is helping greatly. He says it's extremely important for all parents to learn CPR because it could save a child's life. He's thankful to Sarnia police, EMS, and doctors at Bluewater Health for all of their help.
