Kitten Shower at Humane Society

The Sarnia Humane Society is looking to find some kittens some temporary homes.

The local shelter hosted a Kitten Shower Sunday in hopes of finding foster homes for their little felines.

Spokesperson Michelle Fraser said in 2018, they had over 1,000 kittens come through their doors.

"We can't have kittens in the shelter until they're eight weeks old, so sometimes we just need those people that will provide a buffer zone for a few weeks until we can put the kittens up for adoption," said Fraser. "Basically we're hoping to bring people in to foster kittens. It's a huge financial undertaking with kittens because they're labour intensive in terms of what they need-- food, extra special care, veterinarian fees and stuff like that."

Fraser said staff at the Humane Society offer demonstrations on how to rehabilitate kittens, and how to get them from the baby-stage through to the eight week stage.

She said this is the time of year when they need the most help.

"Every year the cold weather seems to bring the puppies and the warm weather seems to bring the kittens, and absolutely we are rolling into that time of year here at the shelter, and it's a very busy place."

Fraser said they're also collecting donations which will benefit the kittens.

The event ran from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Humane Society located on Exmouth Street.
