A 30-year-old Sarnia man is facing 42 criminal charges after a man allegedly stole and cashed cheques from a business where he was working as a cleaner.
Sarnia police said a number of blank cheques were taken from the closed office between December 2018 and January 2019. A camera was also stolen.
It's alleged the suspect wrote and cashed four cheques to himself, each valued at over $1,000.
Constable John Sottosanti said the crime spree continued until March 6, but all of the transactions had since been cancelled.
"Since then, the Sarnia Police Criminal Investigations Branch investigated the matter and they were able to determine who the suspect was," said Sottosanti. "On March 16 the accused was finally located and arrested by a member of the Sarnia Police Service COPPS Unit. During the search, secondary to the arrest, further cheques were located on his person."
Bradley Michael Furtah, 30, faces charges including theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, fraud, and possession of forged documents.
Police say Furtah is currently under investigation for other possible thefts and frauds.
