NOVA Chemicals has donated $27,500 to the Aboriginal program and the YMCA Leadership Challenge Centre.
The money will pay for programs for Walpole Island, Aamjiwnaang and Kettle and Stony Point First Nations so they can belong in a leadership program.
The YMCA program is directed for youth aged 14-17. It gives the teenagers experience to work together and learn skills they could use in everyday life. It combines outdoor activities, teamwork, and communication. It also teaches first aid and CPR training.
"There's a wide variety. There are maybe sports teams or after school programs that take place in these communities. They're able to take advantage of this," says YMCA Supervisor Joe Cebulski, noting the programs have really expanded and last year more than 100 youth signed up.
YMCA President and CEO Jim Janzen says he is pleased to have NOVA's support for the third year.
"NOVA has supported this program over the years and they continue to support the YMCA and the YMCA's partnership with Aboriginal youth," says Janzen.
Representative Tom Thompson adds they are happy to give back to the community.
