It could be a difficult weekend for drivers in parts of Midwestern Ontario.
There is a freezing rain warning in effect for Northern Bruce County and Northern Grey County. A special weather statement was initially issued for Southern Grey and Northern Wellington, but the advisories were upgraded to warnings.
On Saturday, rainfall warnings were also issued for areas such as Grey County and Southern Bruce County.
Environment Canada predicts that significant ice accretion of five to 10 millimetres is possible, and power outages are likely. Other areas only under a rainfall warning are expected to receive 25 to 50 mm of rain.
Precipitation is forecast to continue through Sunday morning.
"Freezing rain may change over to rain on Saturday as temperatures fluctuate around the freezing mark. Areas that change over to rain will see less ice accretion," Environment Canada said in its advisories."Freezing rain will persist longer over higher terrain, where temperatures will stay slightly cooler. Freezing rain is expected to end for all areas by midday Sunday.
People should prepare for icy and slippery conditions. Significant precipitation could occur, which may lead to localized flooding.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break.
