Roof collapse at Brussels' Home Hardware

The owners of McDonald Home Hardware Building Centre in Brussels are thankful no one was hurt when part of the roof collapsed.

Owner Jennifer Hundt says the store is open for business.

She revealed an addition at the entrance of the store was impacted.

"There's an addition that is the front entrance, so it's kind of isolated, so that that section collapsed, and we do have it kind of sectioned off from the remainder of the store right now," Hundt explained. "So we did have that kind of resolved pretty quickly from the inside of the store, at least, so we can continue to operate. But it happened on Sunday night just shortly before 6 p.m., so we were luckily closed, and no one was in the building when it happened."

Hundt said the community response was heartwarming.

"Monday morning we had a really great outpouring of support," she continued. "So definitely feeling the love from the community with some people who reached out and offered help, or who just helped us clean up. So that part of it was really good."

Hundt pointed out the losses are still being added up.
