Hanover Police reveal 2023 local crime stats

Statistics Canada has released crime stats for 2023, and the Hanover Police Service have made their numbers public.

According to a release from Hanover Police Chief, Chris Knoll, 2023 saw Hanover Police Service have "one of the highest weighted clearances and solve rates amongst police services across Canada, with our best organizational ranking dating back over 25 years ago."

In Hanover and the surrounding response area, the overall crime rate dropped over 5 percent from 2022, while violent crime has increased just over 29 percent and non-violent crime has decreased by almost 19 percent.

Chief Knoll's release claims that the rise in violent crime is due to a spike in weapons and firearms related investigations. The release adds that these situations "often involve people from outside of the community who are known to each other who are involved in the drug trade and/or drug subculture."
