Walkerton family warns of aggressive fox

A Walkerton family is worried about small pets in their neighbourhood after witnessing an aggressive fox in the community.

Sam Garland wanted to get a message out, after her son Tegan recently managed to save a cat being hunted by the fox near the downtown core.

"He had witnessed a little fox pursuing one of our neighbor's cats, and him being an....animal person, he was a little bit nervous or panicked, what might happen," Garland explained. "So he took it upon himself to drive around the block, hoping that he could intervene that way rather than doing anything on foot. And he was able to chase it off."

Garland is worried for the small pets in the area.

"My concern was more for the fact that it was pursuing the cat and obviously children or a dog, in case the fox gets brave enough to start coming out during earlier hours," she continued.

Garland said she was proud that her son was able to save the cat, and he also took a video.

"I was quite surprised when he showed me the video at how aggressive the fox was in going after the cat. It wasn't something I had ever witnessed before," she revealed. "You know, you see all kinds of nature and animals, and have ideas of what happens in wildlife, but it was it was definitely determined that it was going to have that cat. I mean we have cats as well."

A few months ago, 17-year-old Tegan witnessed several donkeys running down the middle of Highway 4 between Walkerton and Hanover, and called officials who made sure they were safely rounded up.
