Local doctor donates $250,000 to Kincardine ED redevelopment

The Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation says a generous donation from a local doctor will help them fund improvements to the local hospital.

Dr. Jason Murray, wife Stacey and son Matthew, committed to a donation of $250,000 over five years, which the foundation says is the largest personal gift in its history.

“This is an incredible gift for the future of healthcare in Kincardine from Dr. Murray and his family”, said Nancy Shaw, South Bruce Grey Health Centre President and CEO. “On behalf of SBGHC’s Staff, Physicians and Board of Directors, I extend sincere thanks to Dr. Murray for his continued dedication to the hospital and our community.”

The foundation is currently working to raise $18 million to support a new emergency department and MRI machine.

Dr. Murray grew up in the area and said this was their way of showing their support.

“We felt this gift was a way we could give back to the community," said Dr. Murray. "The future of health care in Kincardine is very bright with new doctors coming to the area within the next year. We look forward to restoring Kincardine hospital back to a facility to be proud of with our new CT scanner and soon new emergency department and MRI machine.”

In recognition of their gift, a trauma room in the new Emergency Department will be named for Dr. Murray and his family.

“Dr. Murray has been such an advocate for local care” said Becky Fair, President of the Hospital Foundation board. “He has been instrumental in ensuring our Emergency Department has the staff needed to avoid being shuttered at peak times, and has helped encourage new doctors to locate their practices here in Kincardine.”

The Foundation says those looking to support its “Building Health Care for Generations” campaign can learn more by contacting Mark Womack, Capital Campaign Manager, at 519-396-3331 x4335 or kfcapitalcampaign@outlook.com.
