Dog park officially opens

The ribbon was cut for the new Clinton Kinsmen Dog Park was held on July 24.

The dog park is located just behind the OPP station and the Reach Centre in Clinton. Central Huron Facilities Manager Steve Duizer was responsible for organizing the contractors and meeting with the Kinsmen about the funding and getting the project going.

“We had quite a few residents come forward, one actually sent a letter to council requesting the dog park, so based on the frequency of the request we thought we'd investigate it a little further. We look forward to providing this for the citizens and giving another option for the parks," Duizer stated.

The dogs that were there last night seemed to be pleased with the new park and there were dogs of all sizes, but Duizer says they don't anticipate any problems.

“We do have the rules posted and so hopefully everybody abides by them and it's pretty common for these off-leash dog parks so we don't foresee any concerns. Right now we've got probably about a dozen dogs out for the opening so, you know, it'll be kind of unpredictable, there'll be busy times and slow times," added Duizer.

Duizer adds the municipality is very grateful to the Kinsmen for raising the money for the Clinton Kinsmen Dog Park.
