Police are warning everyone to be careful after yet another fraud victim lost thousands in a computer scam.
On June 27 at 7:15 p.m., the Perth County OPP investigated a fraud after being contacted by a 67-year-old resident reporting they had been the victim of the computer scam.
It was determined that the victim was browsing on the internet and received an alert pop up on their screen stating they had been scammed and to contact the number provided to resolve the issue.
The victim contacted the number and was asked to withdraw money from their bank. The victim was then told to purchase Apple gift cards from a number of businesses.
Upon returning home the victim once again contacted the number from before and provided all the Apple gift cards numbers to two unknown men. The victim lost over $6900 worth of Apple gift cards.
