Owen Sound police recover replica firearm during arrest

One man is facing multiple weapons charges after officers found a replica handgun on his person.

According to Owen Sound police, officers were patrolling a west side neighbourhood when they observed a male suspected to have outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Additional units were called to assist and the suspect was taken into custody without incident. During a search, officers found the man to be in possession of what appeared to a concealed handgun. Police quickly determined the gun was a replica BB gun.

"Carrying weapons or replica firearms that look real is a serious criminal offence and can be extremely dangerous for both members of the public as well as the police," a statement from the Owen Sound Police Service read.

The accused was taken back to police headquarters and is being held for bail on numerous charges including carrying a concealed weapon, breach of a weapons prohibition order that was issued from a past offence, as well as two counts of failure to comply with probation, two counts of failure to comply with an undertaking, and two counts of failure to comply with a release order.
