With the focus on mental health for Canadian Mental Health Awareness week, Ryan Drury and Steve Sabourin, the hosts of MWO Sports, sat down with former NHLer and mental health advocate Clint Malarchuk on the show this week to discuss mental health importance.
Malarchuk says it's great that he can do his part to help.
"It's been very fulfilling for me to be a survivor like I was on three different occassions, and I feel like I was spared for a reason, and that's to help other people that are suffering."
Being mentally health is vitally important, and Malarchuk says more people need to know that seeking help for mental health issues is perfectly normal.
"The thing is usually people with mental health issues because of the stigma, they suffer in silence, until they realize it's not a weakness, it's a sickness or a disorder."
In terms of moving forward, Malarchuk says that the stigma surrounding mental health issues is something we still need to work on as a society.
"A lot more people are realizing that there's help out there. The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) is great at helping people with disorders like mine."
