The life of a Palmerston man will be celebrated with a special event on Family Day next month.
Darren More was killed last summer in a collision involving a stolen vehicle driven by a drug-impaired driver.
Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington is partnering with local organizations in Palmerston to help celebrate Darren's love of community.
Sarah Bowers-Peter with Crime Stoppers said they wanted to help out.
"Minto Fire Service, Wellington County OPP, the Town of Minto, Palmerston Lions Club and the Palmerston Marlins Softball Club, we're all getting together and offering a number of events and activities throughout the day," she said.
Bowers-Peter said Crime Stoppers wanted to get involved for a number of reasons, including a close connection to More.
"Darren's father-in-law is Dennis Craven who is a member of our board of directors so we had very much a personal connection there," said Bowers-Peter. "But just to be able to look at this situation and think that this is one of many crimes that happened in our community that could have been prevented if someone had come forward with information."
On top of many fun activities, Sarah notes there will be an educational aspect as well.
"Awareness in general for all the organizations is important because they all have unique needs. But Crime Stoppers will have some information out there to explain how we provide an anonymous and confidential method of reporting crime," said Bowers-Peter.
The day will kick off on February 18 at 8 a.m. until 2 pm. Admission is by donation.
