The Avon Maitland District School Board has announced plans for students from Stratford Central and Northwestern during the transition year that starts next September.
Superintendent Janet Baird-Jackson explains there are significant structural problems in the 1958 wing at Stratford Central.
The Ministry has given them 5.1 million dollars to address those problems, provided they make better use of the space they have. That meant shifting 300 students from Stratford Central to Northwestern.
Following a consultation with parents and students, the board has decided that all grade seven to twelve students will attend Stratford Northwestern for the 2019 to 2020 school year. They will also be using portables and spaces like the Stratford 'Y' to accommodate students.
Baird-Jackson says they want to block timetables so students would be moving off-site for a half a day and still make efficient use of time and busing.
She adds they are optimistic the work will be done in time for the beginning of the school year in September of 2020. More information can be found on the https://yourschools.ca/stratford-public-schools/ web site.
