Central Huron calls for compliance with compost service

The Municipality of Central Huron is asking residents to stop abusing the free compost site or they could be subject to fines.

According to the Municipality, the site at 40131 Hydro Line Road has been subject to repeated misuse, as some people are dropping off garbage, concrete, construction waste, plastic bags, and large stumps and logs.

Central Huron says the cost of grinding the stumps and logs on-site has increased from $16,500 per year to over $40,000 per year.

As a result of the repeated incidents, cameras have been installed and any person found dropping off unacceptable materials could be subject to a $750 fine.

The Municipality says it "is hopeful that the appropriate use of this free compost service will allow the site to continue and be of ongoing benefit to residents."
