Striking faculty members of OPSEU at Georgian College in Owen Sound are getting some support on the picket lines.
The Grey Bruce Labour Council's Chris Buckley will stop by the picket line about 4pm on Monday.
Ontario NDP Youth Wing Co-chair Michael Johnston will also visit the picketers.
Jesse Wilkinson, union steward and lead communications professor at the college, says faculty wants a 50/50 ratio between full and part-time instructors to ensure an effective education system for students.
Wilkinson says currently 81% of instructors are on part-time contracts with unequal pay and little job security.
Students have been present on the Georgian College Owen Sound picket lines as well, with over a dozen students protesting with faculty on Thursday and Friday.
Students want negotiations to continue so they can get back to class.
"No one here wants to be on strike,” says Jesse Wilkinson, union steward and lead communications professor at the college. "But faculty are fighting for a contract that puts students first, and offers some job security for the part, time contract workers, who currently make up the majority of the Ontario college system.”
Faculty will continue to picket out front of Georgian College Monday and say they are overwhelmed by the support of the community.
