The Grey Bruce Labour Council is expecting even bigger and better changes for workers in the coming year.
Labour Council Vice President Dave Trumble says the improved minimum wage is just the beginning of progressive change across Canada.
He says the council expects Ontario's Changing Workplaces Review to begin to unravel the precarious work dilemma, and enhance workers' ability to unionize.
President Kevin Smith says the council's annual BBQ in Kincardine offered an opportunity to thank delegates who take time to protect and enhance workers rights.
The BBQ was also a chance to Hand out the Robert White Social Justice Awards, with five students earning $1,250. for submitting winning essays about their accomplishments.
The council also took the opportunity to make a $500 donation to the United Way of Bruce Grey Backpack Campaign, and challenge union affiliates to do the same.
The BBQ was held on the weekend as a chance to look back at the last year, and prepare for the year ahead.
