Wellington North Horse Barn Fire Ends Tragically

At 10pm last night, the Wellington North Fire Service responded to an emergency call related to a fully involved barn fire with horses trapped at a location just west of Mount Forest on Hwy. 89.

Approximately 50 firefighters from both the Mount Forest and Arthur stations and the surrounding communities of Harriston, Clifford, Ayton and Durham responded to the call and contained the fire to the barn.

One man was transported to hospital as a precaution after suffering smoke inhalation. Unfortunately, 12 of the 13 horses in the barn perished and damage is estimated at this time to be in the $500,000 range.

Wellington North Fire Service remains at the scene and representatives from the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office have arrived to investigate the cause of the fire.
