New Allan Cup Hockey division catered towards Junior Hockey grads, and will not feature any pro players

Allan Cup Hockey has announced a new division catered towards junior hockey graduates.

ACH Commissioner Tom Strauch announcing on Twitter this afternoon that the new division "is going to be for Senior Double-A Hockey, rather then Triple-A. We found there's a real need for it. We have so many kids coming out of Junior Hockey, that don't have any place to play other then a beer league".

Strauch says the Ontario Hockey Association, Ontario Hockey Federation and Hockey Canada "are all behind it".

The division will feature no pro players, with Strauch noting "If you've played one game of pro, you're not playing in this league". This means the makeup of the division will consist primarily of players coming out of junior hockey.

Strauch says the division will feature players aged 21-30, but admits "we may have to up that in the years to come".

Teams in the division will be allocated slots so that each team has an equal distribution of players that played at various levels of Junior Hockey.

"We're going to make sure that it's a competitive, but well-rounded league. We don't want anybody running away with it. We want parity right from the get go" says Strauch.

No teams for the new division have so far been announced.
