Saugeen Maitland Lightning Marks 20 Years

The Saugeen Maitland Lightning women's hockey program will celebrate its 20th season in 2016-2017.

The program is made up of "AA" and "A" teams in PeeWee to Intermediate with players from across Midwestern Ontario.

President Howie Pruden says the teams continue excel thanks to the dedication of the players, coaches and parents.

One example, the Bantam "AA" team which won a provincial gold this past season:

"We go into tryouts knowing we have only one girl from last year, rebuilding a whole team, and we had 40 kids out," he said. "It was amazing. I was standing beside the coach going you don't know you are going to have two kids out or 20 players out and we get 40 some and we have a great looking team again this year."

The Saugeen Maitland Lightning will host a 20th Reunion in Howick on August 20.

And in November, Team China will return to the area to play an alumni Lightning team in Mount Forest.
