MPP announces recreational funding

Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae has announced funding for local recreational programs.

Rae announced on April 29 that the province is giving the Three Rivers YMCA Stratford and St. Marys locations $57,900 in funding through the Ontario Trillium Foundation's (OTF) Capital grant stream.

The funding is to ensure that communities have "safe and ready access to critical programming, activities and spaces," according to a media release.

Grant funding can be used to purchase new equipment, build a new space, or completing renovations, retrofits or repairs.

“It is important that our seniors have the opportunity to remain active during their golden years, and those living with a disability can also maintain a healthy lifestyle,” said MPP Rae. “This investment by the Ontario Government and the Ontario Trillium Foundation will do just this. This adaptive and accessible fitness equipment at both the Stratford and St. Marys YMCA locations will ensure everyone in our rural communities can remain active.”

“Non-profit organizations across Ontario deliver programming that makes a difference – whether it’s helping people train for new careers, learn new things, or simply connect with those around them,” added Neil Lumsden, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “That’s why capital grant support is so important. This funding will help ensure these spaces remain the heart of communities across our province.”

“We’re grateful for OTF’s support to increase the accessible fitness options for seniors, those living with disabilities and chronic conditions,” said Operational Manager for Stratford and St. Marys YMCA, Jay Colquhoun. “This funding will ensure that we can provide more inclusive services to members of our communities, helping them to reach their individual health goals safely.”
