A Hanover driver and Holstein business owner face charges after a transport truck stopped in the Municipality of West Grey was found to have improper brakes and an insecure load.
OPP stopped the truck on Highway 6 between Grey Road 109 and Watson Drive shortly after 3:30 p.m. on October 30. An inspection of the vehicle reportedly found numerous issues related to both the truck and the required vehicle documentation.
The driver, a 24-year-old Hanover resident, is charged with nine offences including improper brakes on the trailer, an improper braking system on the commercial vehicle, an insecure load, failure to surrender the inspection schedule, driving with no validated permit, and having no name on a commercial vehicle.
A Holstein business has also been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with failure to ensure the daily inspection schedule is conducted properly, improper brakes on the trailer, an improper braking system on the commercial vehicle, an insecure load, and no name on the commercial motor vehicle.
"The Ontario Provincial Police remains committed to ensuring the safety of Ontario's roadways through proactive commercial motor vehicle enforcement," police said in a statement on Wednesday. "Commercial motor vehicles are subject to strict regulations governing vehicle maintenance, inspections, load security, and operating requirements. These measures help ensure the safe movement of people and goods throughout the province."
Police urge anyone who sees a commercial motor vehicle being operated unsafely or that is in poor condition to call them.
