What began as an investigation into a stolen ATV and trailer in Port Elgin, ended with police seizing methamphetamine and a set of brass knuckles.
Saugeen Shores police were called about a red ATV and trailer stolen around 11:30 a.m. on Monday. Later that same day reports began coming in about two people riding a red ATV and stealing packages from porches within the community.
A photo of the suspects was posted to social media the following day, which prompted additional reported sightings to police.
Officers spotted the ATV in the area of Lamont Sports Park, but the operator sped away down the rail trail. Eventually, officers searching the Biener Trail system followed what appeared to be ATV tracks in the dirt into a wooded area where they found and arrested a suspect.
A search turned up a quantity of methamphetamine, cannabis, brass knuckles, and copper wire.
The ATV and trailer were returned to its owner.
A 37-year-old Saugeen Shores man is charged with several offences including dangerous driving, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of drugs, unauthorized possession of a weapon, cannabis control act charges, and failure to comply with a probation order.
He was remanded into custody at a bail hearing on Tuesday.
