The Grey Bruce Labour Council (GLBC) isn't mincing words when it comes to the impending closure of a plant that employs over 300 people.
The GBLC has released a statement about the closure of the Transcontinental Printing plant in Owen Sound, which will be closing in the new year, as well as the closure of the Owen Sound Grain Elevators.
The statement says these job losses are "taking place in a community that has been hit over and over again by the loss of jobs for decades. The devastation of the community is undeniable."
"Hitting a community that has lost so many jobs already with a closure of this magnitude will ensure that other businesses are negatively impacted. The closing of this plant will leave the community with a sense of profound betrayal," said Labour Council President Kevin Smith.
GBLC's statement also says that this follows the loss of jobs in steel products, glass production, car parts, electronics, large consumer products and telecommunications that have already greatly affected the community.
The GBLC says there are no good excuses offered for the removal of these jobs from the area from the employers.
"Employers will expect loyalty from their employees while employees will only be rewarded with an uncertain future as the company simply walks away from a community that is in desperate need of jobs," noted Chris Stephen, Labour Council Vice President for Grey.
