Bruce Power has made a $1 million donation to support a new affordable housing project in the Municipality of Brockton.
The new 41-unit build at 85 Eastridge Road in Walkerton has already broken ground, and is located directly across from the Bruce Power Regional Soccer Park.
The 1.5-acre development is designed to address pressing housing demands across the region by offering a mix of one, two, and three bedroom apartments. There is also a plan to build a new community playground.
All of the new units will be managed by the Bruce County Housing Corporation, with the goal of ensuring that there are varied mixed-rental options for local workers.
The hope is that more available mixed-income housing options will help bring in more workers in health care, skilled trades, child care, service industries, and other essential sectors.
"We know how important affordable housing is to communities across our region and the leadership demonstrated here by the County of Bruce and the Municipality of Brockton made us want to be a part of the project," said Bruce Power’s Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice-President James Scongack. "We commend the County of Bruce for its leadership on this project and we look forward to watching each phase of the process."
